TTC increasing service on Line 1 beginning November 16

Beginning Sun. Nov. 16, the TTC is increasing service on its busiest subway line, Line 1 Yonge-University, as well as the 505 Dundas and 511 Bathurst streetcar routes.

With this increase in service, customers on Line 1 can look forward to trains arriving approximately every two and a half minutes during the morning and evening rush hours and increased service throughout the day.

“Last month, I announced that the TTC was increasing service on Line 2 to improve transit for thousands of customers across the city. These additional service increases on Line 1 and two major streetcar routes are part of our promise to deliver better, more frequent transit for the people of Toronto,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. “More trains, more often will help to improve the experience for everyone who uses transit in our city.”

“TTC customers deserve better, more frequent and reliable transit, and these service increases are about providing just that,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “Line 1 carries hundreds of thousands of customers every day, and these improvements will see 10 additional trains added in the morning rush period, and 15 additional trains in the evening rush period – reducing wait times and crowding on the system.”

“This service increase builds upon last month's service increase on Line 2, and our commitment to adding capacity in the right places at the right time,” said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. “These increases will not only benefit customers who use the subway, but we have also added service on key bus routes and will continue to monitor ridership to ensure we can meet demand.”

Service adjustments beginning Nov. 16

Line 1 Yonge-University: Service will be increased in all time periods on Line 1, Monday to Friday and weekends. On weekdays, an additional 10 trains will be added in the morning rush period, and an additional 15 trains in the evening rush period, arriving approximately every two minutes and 30 seconds.

505 Dundas: Service will be increased to every six minutes between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and in some time periods on weekends. This is the initial step towards establishing all-day six-minute service along the route, which is outlined in the TTC’s 5-Year Service and Customer Experience Action Plan (2024-2028).

511 Bathurst: Service will be increased to every six minutes between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and in some time periods on weekends, to improve service accessibility and reliability, and to reflect improved travel times due to the implementation of transit priority lanes on Bathurst St.

37 Islington: Service will be adjusted to improve service reliability, with trip times adjusted in the early morning and late evening periods to better align trips with the start and end of service on 337 Islington.
