More buses and more frequent service for North York, Etobicoke, and Scarborough among TTC service increases starting March 30
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow has announced TTC service increases on 14 bus routes beginning from March 30, including more frequent service for customers in North York, Etobicoke, and Scarborough.
Mayor Chow announced the increases at Steeles Ave. W. and Weston Rd., where Saturday afternoon bus services will be increased to match weekday service levels. Buses will arrive every two minutes connecting customers along the northwest corridor with Finch Station on Line 1, through Etobicoke to Kipling Station on Line 2. This change improves the current Saturday afternoon service frequency of every three to four minutes at Steeles and Weston on 60 Steeles West, 165 Weston Rd. North, and 960 Steeles West Express routes.
From March 30 there will be 26 more buses on the road on Saturday afternoons, bringing over 1,100 buses. Many of these will be on the Steeles Ave. W. and Wilson Ave. corridors.
“Torontonians deserve better, more frequent transit, and that’s exactly what our investments are delivering,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow. “Our historic TTC investment in Budget 2025 is funding more frequent, reliable, and affordable public transit that connects Torontonians to schools, jobs, and each other.”
“We are investing more than ever in the TTC to increase service, strengthen connections, and improve reliability,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “These service increases and improvements are about getting the basics right for our customers – providing more frequent and reliable transit in peak and off-peak times that better connects people to jobs, education, and key retail destinations.”
“As CEO of the TTC, I am committed to improving the customer experience on North America’s third largest public transit system,” said TTC CEO Greg Percy. “In addition to more frequent bus and subway service, we are piloting a new route management process to address service bunching. Customers expect buses and streetcars to arrive at regularly spaced intervals, not all at once.”

More frequent subway service on Line 4 Sheppard. An additional 380 weekly subway trips will deliver subway service every five-to-six minutes – a 33 per cent increase. Customer wait times will be reduced by up to two minutes during all periods, every day.
Enhanced streetcar service. Getting around on Saturdays will be easier for customers on popular streetcar routes. Six additional streetcars operating on the 505 Dundas will provide service every eight minutes on Saturday mornings, and every six minutes in the afternoon. On the 506 Carlton, six additional streetcars will deliver service every eight and nine minutes in the busy Saturday afternoon and early evenings respectively. Daily, 310 Spadina Night customers will have more frequent access to streetcars, operating every 20 minutes – a 10-minute improvement.
New route management to address service bunching and gapping on eleven routes
In addition to service increases starting from March 30, the TTC will expand a new route management pilot designed to reduce the incidents of service bunching. Bunching can occur when traffic congestion, weather and other factors result in buses and streetcars catching up with each other mid-route and leaving longer-than-expected gaps between services.
As part of the pilot, uniformed Supervisors are positioned mid-route to help Operators maintain headways and ensure customers are not waiting longer than they expect for their service.
Eleven routes with a high incidence of bunching included in the pilot are: 506 Carlton, 512 St. Clair, 7 Bathurst, 24 Victoria Park, 25 Don Mills, 29 Dufferin, 100 Flemingdon Park, 165 Weston Rd. North, 924 Victoria Park Express, 925 Don Mills Express, and 929 Dufferin Express.
